Personal Pronouns

A1 — Beginner

Personal pronouns in Russian:

Person Singular Plural
1st я (I) мы (we)
2nd ты (you, informal) вы (you, formal/plural)
3rd M он (he) they (они)
3rd F она (she) they (они)
3rd N оно (it) they (они)

Usage tips

  • Ты is for friends, family, children. Вы is for strangers, elders, or multiple people.
  • Russian pronouns are often omitted because the verb ending already shows the subject. E.g., Я читаю → читаю (the -ю ending implies "I").
  • In the past tense, gender matters: он читал vs. она читала.
